<description>Very good point. Those who are perusing the rating for the ratings sake -- so they can market their rating to their clients -- are not embracing process improvement.

Product companies may privately peruse process improvement, but there is no value in getting an external entity to publicly declare how they're doing (unless Wall St. demands it).

		<description>Great post!
Though, the one nit I'd pick to make it better would be to note that it's not necessarily CMMI that adds cost and slows things down, it's how too many of those who pursue CMMI \ratings\ implement CMMI (to get their rating) that adds costs and slows them down.

This diminishes if not reverses the value of CMMI.

Those who look at CMMI as a way of facilitating a more responsive, scalable and predictable business are far more likely to use and implement CMMI such that they eliminate waste and crank out products faster and cheaper with lower operational costs.

And eat their competition's lunch.
